About leopards in the Serengeti

Leopards hunt alone and stash kills in trees to avoid lions and hyenas. In Serengeti they are present in healthy numbers, yet never easy. Patience and a guide who knows favorite resting trees make the difference.

Where to see leopards

The Seronera Valley is Tanzania’s best-known leopard area, especially along the Seronera River. Scan thick branches on sausage trees and acacia lines. Early morning drives improve odds before cats settle for the day.

A longer itinerary helps. Our 7-day safari package includes multiple Serengeti game drives on the Northern Circuit.

Safari tips for spotting leopards

  1. Look up into trees, not only at ground level
  2. Watch for tail movement in thick foliage
  3. Avoid crowding if other vehicles arrive
  4. Bring binoculars for distant branch rests
